Leap of Faith: Photography Journey
That’s it! I’ve finally done it. I’ve finally taken that leap of faith in my creative energy, and just in time for the New Year!
I’m not sure how often I can promise (or should promise) to commit to posting on my newest blog starting in photography considering that I already run another website. However, what I can promise is to commit to the burning energy inside of me that is a new creative flame: photography. Professionally speaking, I’ve been embarking on the photo journey for almost a year now and the experience has been nothing short of eye-opening, engaging and fun! Somewhat of a hot take but overall I even enjoy retouching! I appreciate that during the beginning of 2023, I was able to temporarily acquire a Canon EOS M50 Mark II, which is currently rated 4.4 out of 5 stars on the official Canon website. There’s no advertisement or incentive that I receive from this either, I’ve just really enjoyed some of their products over the years. After all, it was a late Christmas present and an early birthday present to myself so I have to geek out a little here. Recently I’ve been snapping more outdoor wildlife photography. Living in Texas, I felt like this would naturally make an interesting series to create this year, almost a rite of passage if you will. If you would like to browse work related to Texas wildlife and pets, please visit the Wild Heart’s’: A Texan Tapestry of Wildlife and Beloved Companions in my portfolios.
Canon EOS M50 Mark II Review Rating Snapshot
This 4K-optional-recording device is a super lightweight camera body alone. The vari-angle LCD touchscreen is bar far one of the most unique and helpful features. While doing any type of self-portrait, it becomes supportive in acting like a secondary monitor for reviewing the positioning of models or objects in the frame. With a shutter speed of 1/4000, we can capture action shots and pet photography more effortlessly with specific settings geared toward continuous shooting. Additionally, when we need to slow it down for our nighttime outdoor shooting, we have the option to shoot in Slow Shutter Mode.
Funny enough, I’m typically not the person who leaves reviews for products unless they’re really good or really bad. In this instance, Canon received an honest 5-star review from me. Personally, this camera and the EF-M 15-45mm & EF-M 55-200mm lenses to pair really do set me up for success in my current operations, and skill level. Currently, I’d market myself between being an advanced beginner and a competent photographer. Having a pre-existing background in graphic design and web development does take a heavy load off of my self-inflicted course material. Not to mention, I have several years in front of the camera myself which is also a big perk, I can assist in major ways with direction and posing of objects and models.
Overall, I think the EOS M50 Mark II checks all the boxes for basic camera functions for most photographers with its technical specifications like manual and autofocus, variations in exposure control, and direct printing accessibility. With this becoming the next most used device after my desktop, it’s fair to say that I needed to invest wisely. One of the alternative long-term uses will be for streaming on Twitch. For the last few years, I’ve been using Logitech’s C920 Pro HD Webcam. The last few years it’s done a really good job as a beginner-friendly recording device. It was really affordable and as simple as the ‘plug-and-play’ method. I believe in upgrading your equipment when you’ve spent enough time using the outdated model that you’re trying to replace. That way you don’t have any shopper’s remorse or you don’t feel as if you’ve spent unnecessary money on something you won’t use much! Check back often to see what new tech and equipment will be the most beneficial for your next photography session!
Either way, this will be an incredible learning experience on this photography journey for myself and my viewers. Welcome to JSDFX Media, and Happy New Year!
I hope to book you soon!
